Software for Chinese-Owned Businesses

Most software projects fail at the handover, not in the code. For a Chinese-owned business operating outside China, the gap is usually language, accounting convention or decision structure. We build around all three.

Why the delivery partner matters more than the stack

A system can be technically correct and still unusable. When the person operating it works in Chinese and the document it produces goes to a German tax adviser, both sides need to be right. We treat language, accounting convention and approval flow as part of the specification rather than a translation step at the end.

  • Interface labels, product names and document templates are stored per language, so one record produces a Chinese screen and a local-language invoice.
  • Receivables, payables and inventory are modelled the way the business already tracks them, then mapped to local statutory reporting.
  • Approval flows follow how decisions are actually made, which in a family-owned business is usually one or two people rather than a committee.

Four business types we work with most

Nearly every engagement falls into one of four shapes, and each has a different first problem.

  • Wholesale and distribution — order taking, picking, delivery routing and settlement on one record.
  • Restaurant groups — takings, stock and labour consolidated across locations, with online ordering that matches the kitchen.
  • Import and export — landed cost including freight, duty and storage, carried through to the invoice.
  • Professional services — client intake, document handling and billing that fit existing working habits.

How a project actually runs

Requirements are agreed in writing before development starts, in the language the operating team uses. Development delivers a runnable build every two weeks, and each phase ends with an acceptance record. When a change is requested mid-phase, it is priced and scheduled rather than absorbed silently.

  • Week 1–2: requirement interviews, process mapping, written scope.
  • Week 3–4: prototype and interface review, sign-off on key screens.
  • Then: two-week build cycles with a runnable version each time.
  • Close: acceptance against the agreed list, source code and documentation handed over.

What you receive at handover

The point of the handover is that an internal team or another supplier can continue the work without asking us. Everything below is delivered as an archive, not a link that expires.

  • Source code with build scripts and deployment notes.
  • Interface and API documentation, in Chinese and English.
  • Acceptance records for each phase, signed off item by item.
  • Administrator training, recorded so new staff can review it later.
FAQ

Questions we are asked

Can we communicate in Chinese throughout the project?

Yes. Requirement interviews, weekly updates and acceptance reviews are conducted in Chinese. Documents intended for local authorities, customers or auditors are produced in the local language, with the Chinese version kept as the internal reference.

How do you handle the time difference?

Each engagement sets a fixed overlap window inside both working days. Written updates go out every week regardless of meetings, so a decision does not wait for the next call. For North America the overlap is early morning Chengdu time; for Europe it is the afternoon.

Can we start with one module instead of the whole system?

Yes, and it is usually the better way to start. Ordering, inventory or settlement can go live first, with the remaining modules added on the same data model. The scope document states which parts are included in each phase.

Who maintains the system after launch?

Either an internal team or us. Most clients take a first-year maintenance arrangement covering version updates and fault response, then decide whether to bring it in-house. Handover documentation is written so that this decision stays open.

REGIONS

Delivery experience by region

The same delivery process runs in every region. Pick your region to see local cases, compliance requirements and the time difference.

Describe the current process first, then we scope the system

We are based in Chengdu and schedule calls in your working hours. Send the business scenario, the systems already in place and your timeline; one conversation is usually enough to judge feasibility and scope.
